Frames

Picture Framing choices are endless: plain wood, hand painted, stained, waxed, contemporary metal frames, traditional gold, swept frames - the choice is yours.

Mountboard
Our chosen mounting board comes from Larson-Juhl which comes in a fabulous range of colours, thicknesses and textures. We are also proud to offer a traditional hand painted washline for mounting, where appropriate, to give your picture frame that extra special look.

Materials
Our mountboards, barrier paper and backing boards are chosen to be non harmful and we can offer a range of glass and acrylic products with varying degrees of protection including Non-reflective and anti-UV qualities.

3D Items

For items such as medals, football shirts etc, we can use box or deep rebate framing, ensuring that the glass is not in contact with the item being framed.

Cross Stitch

Both cross stitch and embroidery works are stretched using the correct lacing method, over acid free board and, as with all fabric pieces including football shirts, we aim to make the process fully reversible.

Restoration and Conservation

Where an item of artwork has suffered damage, whether through insect infestation, damp or the perils of old age, we will endeavour to restore your work using a range of conservation techniques.

Corporate Services

We have completed framing projects for many corporate bodies including Museums, Theatres, Councils, Libraries, Schools and Hospitals. We can cope with quantity and will always endeavour to work to your time scale providing we are given adequate notice. Hanging can also be arranged.

Framing for artists

Exhibiting artists who choose us when preparing for an exhibition will receive an imaginative and innovative approach to their artwork, incorporating the latest trends in framing and finishing, where appropriate.

'We have been using MF Gallery and Framing for framing requirements of the Museum collection for over a decade. They provide a quality service that is punctual and reliable. The correct mount and frame are very important to the display of an artwork but also to the future preservation of that work and having framers who understand those needs is crucial.’   -   Emma Roodhouse – Head Curator for Christchurch Mansion and Ipswich Museum.

‘MF Gallery and Framing did a fantastic job with our staircase gallery. Their expertise throughout the consultation and hanging process results in a visually stunning space which is enjoyed by our customers daily. We highly recommend them and look forward to our next framing project.’  -   The New Wolsey Theatre, Ipswich.

Owen Berry - Owner

''As an artist and interior design enthusiast I know how important the finishing touches can be, meaning the consultation process is extremely important in providing the correct framing for you. We aim to work up a relationship with the customer to get a true feeling of which direction and look to head for.'' - Owen Berry, Owner

Owen studied Art and Design at Northgate High School, received a foundation Degree in Art and Design from Suffolk College and Graduated in 3D Design and Craft in 2011 from Colchester Institute. His own work comprises of both modern and traditional styles ranging from local landscapes to Ben Nicholson and Picasso inspired modern works, primarily in the medium of oils and mixed media. They have been exhibited in art galleries throughout Suffolk with works being collected as far afield as California. His framing career started in 2003, and he has since expanded his knowledge to become one of the most skilled and knowledgeable framers in East Anglia, with his own interest in the arts helping to provide fresh picture framing ideas. He has also dabbled in jewellery design, ceramics (both hand built and thrown) and fused glass.

Owen has a keen interest in Musical Theatre. He has played many roles at both the Regent Theatre and The New Wolsey Theatre, Ipswich. These include 'Tick' in Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Gomez Addams in ‘The Addams Family’, ‘Lumiere’ in Beauty and the Beast, Ali Hakim in ‘Oklahoma’, Corny Collins in ‘Hairspray’, Fagin in ‘Oliver!’, Daddy Brubeck/Vittorio Vidal in 'Sweet Charity' and Motel in ‘Fiddler on the Roof!’. He is the Publicity Manager and Set Designer for IODS and a member of the production team for their annual sell out Christmas production ‘Sounds like Christmas’ which plays at St Peters by the Waterfront every December. With running the business and regular rehearsals when performing, his schedule is always busy, but he wouldn’t want it any other way!

Staff Member - Bev Berry

Beverley Berry - Owen's Mum

Beverley joined the team from the day Owen took over the gallery in 2014. Since then she has become an absolute master at her craft. Her skills at tapestry and cross stitch stretching have to be seen to be believed and likewise goes for her ability to stretch and mount various types of clothing such as sports shirts and memorabilia. The traditional method of stretching usually takes many years of practice, but Beverley took to it like a duck to water having spent many years working in Insurance.  Family working together can sometimes be a big mistake, but in this case that could not be further from the truth!

Staff Member - Felicity Beaumont

Felicity Beaumont (Flick) - Manager

An incredible artist in her own right, Flick has slotted into the team and become Owen's PA, Sidekick, Wingman, and loyal friend. Graduating in both BA and MA Fine Art she is a huge asset to the team and already an extremely skilled framer. Her dedication to her own craft shines through in all she does and this reflects brilliantly in her skill at helping choose the correct framing for our customers work. Check out her instagram to see more of what she does in her own work! @felicitypaints

Staff Member - Andrew Johns

Andrew Johns - Part of the furniture!

Andrew has been with MF for over 30 years. Having previously joined with previous owners Jenny and Alan, he decided to stay when Owen took over, and boy are we glad he did. Andrew was fundamental in bridging the gap between new and old customers and we are so grateful to say that not only did we maintain the customer base but we have since grown 10 fold. Andrew's warm greeting and sense of humour will have you smiling for the rest of the day, a trait that so few people have in the 21st century. MF simply wouldn't be the same without him.  Not just a colleague but a true friend.
